Specific topics that will be covered include 1) a review of historical acquisition activity, 2) the unique nature of construction industry transactions, 3) acquisitions as a strategy, 4) international interest in the US construction industry, 5) the role of non-traditional buyers such as private equity and 6) recent valuation trends.

About Landon Funston: Landon is a principal with FMI, management consultants to the construction industry. He works extensively with contractors throughout the country as a member of FMI Investment Banking, focusing on stock valuations, buyer and seller representation, and business continuity.

Prior to his tenure in the Investment Banking Group, Landon spent several years in FMI’s Management
Consulting practice. This experience gives him a unique understanding of the difficult organizational, operating and strategic issues facing an owner in the process of ownership transition, whether it be to a third party or an internal buyer. In addition, Landon’s financial background gives him a thorough understanding of transaction structures and valuation issues.

Published articles to Landon’s credit include “Financing Alternatives: Non-Traditional Sources of Capital”,
“ Enhancing the Value of Your Construction Company”, “How Much Is Your Construction Firm Worth?”,
“ Valuations of Construction Companies: Asset-Based or Earnings-Based?” and “Ownership Transfer and
Management Succession Trends”. In addition, Landon speaks extensively to national and regional construction industry groups about mergers and acquisitions and ownership transfer issues and trends.

Landon holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia and a master of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
